We love to give our dogs the best life possible. We do offer retired dogs to carefully selected individuals who we screen. We prefer homes with a fence and preferably a home that hunts ducks. Our dogs do enjoy working and we place them in homes where they still play the game of retrieving. We humans consider hunting retrieving as a sport and our dogs are athletes, but our dogs consider it a game. If you are interested in offering a retired retriever your home, please email us and we can put you on a wait list for a retiring dog.
Another way we strive to improve the life of our dogs is by placing chosen dogs into guardian homes. These are dog that we are interested in using in our breeding program but also giving them a home environment to live and work. You will get a quality labrador that shows promise for hunt testing, and field trail without a steep cost to buy the dog. The guardian home will pay for day-to-day costs and regular vet bills. Breeding veterinary costs and clearances are the responsibility of Coram Deo Retrievers. You will also need to train the dog and hunt test the dog. Failure to do so will nullify the contract and the dog will either be returned or you will need to buy the dog.
- You do need to live in the Greater Houston area (2 hr drive from Houston).
- You do need to force fetch the puppy by gentle means.
- You do need to feed a quality dog food. We use 50% Purina Pro Plan Sport Beef and 50% Victor beef.
- Maintenance of vaccinations are a must.
- We do need notification if you intend to board. It would be best if the dog is boarded with us or a trainer during vacation.
- You do need to agree to a visit once a year and before placement to your home.
- Special preferences to individuals who have a membership in a hunting retriever club in the Greater Houston Area.
Your dog will be used for breeding. If you have a female, she will return to us for delivery until she weans her puppies. Males need to be available for natural mating, harvesting semen for frozen specimens or fresh. In short males are required less time away from home. The dog will be turned over for full ownership to the guardian once commitments to breeding has completed.
